When the weather gets too hot to handle, I always like to beat the heat by escaping to the air-conditioned cool of the movies. Of course, summer at the movies means plenty of big dumb action flicks but so long as they don’t take themselves too seriously, I usually enjoy them. The studios try to save some of the best, or at least most popular movies for this time of year. I’m interested to see what happens in Cowboys & Aliens which boasts Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde. I’m less than excited about the new Planet of the Apes movie because honestly, when was the last time there was a good Planet of the Apes movie?
While there are a few movies I’m excited about, is it just me or does it seem like most of the movies are targeted to 15 year olds? Granted, they are probably the only ones with enough time to actually watch all of these movies but I sometimes miss real action movies. You know, like the Rock. It has Sean Connery who plays a former Alcatraz inmate and Nicolas Cage as a chemical weapons expert. The two are put together to help stop rouge Marines, who are hiding on Alcatraz, from blowing up San Fransisco. Yes, it’s kind of a ridiculous plot but it is an action movie and a great one at that. My personal favorite scene? When Nic Cage warns them not to bomb the island by using the green smoke, of course.
So, whether you’re off to see Cowboys & Aliens or your staying at home with an old favorite, enjoy another summer of movie fun!
