Gmail Users: Are You Missing Out?

Are you wondering why you haven’t heard about promotions from your favorite retail stores recently? Have you checked under your “Promotions” tab?”

Maybe you’re not 100% sure what that is. That’s okay – if you want to know more, then read on!

About one year ago, Gmail changed the interface of your inbox. Before May of 2013, Gmail users had only one inbox. At that point, you could create filters and folders, to sort all your incoming mail automatically, but this wasn’t always the ideal solution. Sorting through hundreds of folders within the same inbox gets confusing, and things get lost.

The powers that be at Google decided to give Gmail a facelift. The new Gmail has multiple tabs on top (Primary | Social | Promotions | etc.), to help sort different types of emails, like this:

If you stopped getting promotional emails in general, then chances are, you haven’t been looking under your “Promotions” tab – which has all sorts of fabulous deals and interesting information just waiting for you to see.

If you want to see promotional emails in the future, and most likely you benefit greatly from all the amazing sales being offered there, then you have three options:

1. You can click on your “Promotions” tab, and read the emails there.
2. You can move emails from specific companies to your “Primary” tab.
3. You can get rid of tabs altogether.

1. Read Promotional Emails In the Promotions Tab

If you love the new Gmail layout, and like the idea of having all of your promotional emails in one place, then you don’t have to change any settings in Gmail. You just have to make sure that you actually click on the promotions tab every day so that you don’t miss out.

2. Move Emails from Specific Companies to Your Primary Tab

If you would prefer to see emails from certain companies automatically when you first open Gmail, but like the idea of having a promotional tab for other companies’ emails, then you can tell Gmail to place all emails from one company into your “Primary Tab.” How? There are two ways (as detailed by Gmail itself):

For example, you drag the email from Green Smoke® eCigs, and move the message to the Primary tab:

OR right-click on the message, select “Move to tab,” and then select “Primary,” like this:

are gmail users missing out - primary

After doing that, you will see the following message appear (on top):

If you click “Yes” then all future emails from Green Smoke® eCigs will go directly into your “Primary” tab:

Get Rid of Tabs Altogether

If you want to revert back to to old skool Gmail, and get rid of tabs altogether, then do the following:

ONE: Click on the settings icon:

TWO: Click on “Configure Inbox:”

THREE: Uncheck all the boxes to revert back to the style of your old inbox.  That means you will go,

FOUR: Click on “Save.” And that’s it! Your inbox will suddenly look as it did a year ago. You will see the following message at this point:
