TJ Bell and Green Smoke® (the makers of high quality electronic cigarettes) are gearing up for another NASCAR race this weekend at Watkins Glen. Bell and Green Smoke® are proud to announce that they’ve teaming up with the Helping Early Responders Organization (H.E.R.O) and will be hosting a different H.E.R.O at all of their upcoming races.
H.E.R.O’s mission is to support the welfare and quality of life of the United States Armed Forces community and to highlight the courage and dedication that they have. This week’s Watkins Glen H.E.R.O will be Captain Dennis H. Knowles.
Captain Knowles has served with distinction in the US Army for more than 12 years. He was commissioned in the US Army Armor branch where he graduated from the Reserve Officer Training Corps in 2000.
In addition to serving at the World Trade Center and helping with its evacuation, his tour of duty has taken him through Kuwait and Afghanistan. He participated in the Operation Noble Eagle II and Operation Enduring Freedom VI and VII campaigns.
Over his career he has held a number of leadership and key staff positions. His positions include assignment as:
- An Armor Platoon Leader, Armor Executive Officer, and Armor Delta Company Commander of 1-127 Armor Battalion
- The 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Operations Officer
- An Embedded Tactical Trainer in the Afghan National Army as a Reconnaissance Officer mentor, Paktika Province, 203rd CORPS Afghanistan
- Logistical Operations Officer, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.
He’s earned many awards and decorations including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation and Army Achievement medals, both with three oak leaf clusters.
Captain Knowles, who holds a Masters Degree in Education, is now serving in the Inactive Ready Reserve. He lives in Addison, NY where he is currently teaching 6th graders in the Addison Central School District.
